Our Cotton

Every inara piece starts as cotton woven at a family-run mill in Rajasthan, India. We think about that cloth a great deal, probably more than we should, because the fabric you sleep in shapes how rest feels. The pattern catches your eye. The cotton's the part your skin remembers.

So here's why we chose Indian cotton, and what we love about it.

Why Indian Cotton

India has grown and woven cotton for more than five thousand years, and that long practice shows in the fibre itself. The climate and soil produce a fine, long cotton fibre, and longer fibres are what make a fabric soft, smooth, and hard-wearing.

Cotton is also naturally breathable. Its structure lets air move through, which is why people in warm climates have worn it for centuries. It lets air move to keep you cool and comfortable, unlike synthetics, which can trap moisture and leave you feeling sticky or clammy. It makes comfortable clothing and even better bedding, especially for those who run hot in any season.

Cotton tends to get nicer with time, too. It softens with wear and washing, settling into that easy, lived-in feel, and holds its shape and colour when you look after it. A good cotton pyjama set is something you'll reach for season after season.

How Our Fabric is Made

Our cotton is woven on air-jet looms, a modern and precise way of weaving. Instead of passing the thread across by shuttle, the loom uses a gentle jet of air to carry each crosswise thread between the lengthwise ones at speed, building an even, consistent weave row by row. The result is a smooth, finely woven cloth with a lovely drape.

inara's cotton has always been woven in Rajasthan, the textile heartland of northwestern India, and it's always been soft and strong. So when our family-run mill suggested an upgrade in 2026, knowing we never settle on quality, we said yes. The cloth that's come back since is softer still, with even better drape. If you've worn inara before, you already know how lovely this cotton is. The latest collections are a gentle step up.
